ConnectingOntario NER

Since its inception, the NWHA mission has been to facilitate collaboration among health service
providers in order to improve the delivery of health care for patients in Northwestern Ontario.
About ConnectingOntario NER

ConnectingOntario Northern and Eastern Region (ConnectingOntario NER) (previously known as Connecting Northern and Eastern Ontario or cNEO) is a program funded by eHealth Ontario that will give clinicians (such as physicians, nurses and community based health providers) secure and timely access to electronic patient health information in northern and eastern Ontario. This will be done by connecting health service providers through the integration of electronic health care systems.

About ConnectingOntario NER

The ConnectingOntario NER program is implementing electronic health record (EHR) services for an estimated 18,000+ clinicians across Northern and Eastern Ontario – with a targeted completion in early 2017.

As patient health information is increasingly captured and managed electronically, patient records are still fragmented and scattered across multiple systems. ConnectingOntario NER will address this challenge through the effective sharing of electronic health records (EHRs) across the care continuum. Clinicians’ desire to have a single point of access to patient health records will be realized through a single sign-on process, providing them with access to pertinent patient records at the right time, when they need it most.

Clinicians (from hospital, primary and/or community care) will be able to access their patients’ electronic health information, such as lab reports, diagnostic imaging reports, discharge summaries and medications, in a seamless manner using their clinical viewer (portal) and/or their electronic medical record (EMR).  Clinicians will be able to access their patients’ health information through a clinical viewer (portal) and/or an electronic medical record (EMR).

Clinicians in community-based care can securely view their patients’ health information using the ConnectingOntario clinical viewer (portal). Web access allows clinicians the flexibility to access this information from any secured computer, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
